Qazavi appointed Iran’s CBI deputy governor

TEHRAN, Oct. 26 (MNA) -- President Mahmud Ahmadinejad appointed Hossein Qazavi as the deputy governor of Central Bank of Iran (CBI) here Friday.

 

Qazavi served as a member of Export Development Bank of Iran (EDBI) board of directors before he was approved by the CBI General Assembly.

 

Proposed by CBI Governor Tahmasb Mazaheri, the newly appointed deputy replaced Mohammad-Javad Vahaji, who had occupied the post since 2003.

 

The CBI, established in 1960, is responsible for the design and implementation of the monetary and credit policies with due regard to the general economic policy of the country, as stated in the Monetary and Banking Act of Iran (MBAI).

 

Maintaining the value of national currency and the equilibrium in the balance of payments are among the four major objectives of CBI as stated in the MBAI.

 

Facilitating trade-related transactions and improving the growth potential of the state are also CBI objectives.
