Power grid to link Iran with Iraq

TEHRAN, Oct. 1 (MNA) – Iran’s deputy energy minister announced here on Monday that the country’s power network will be connected to nine spots of Iraq.

Attending a press conference, Mohammad Ahmadian said that the connection will be made at Iraq’s request.

Referring to the construction of power plants in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, he said that Iran prefers to build a power plant in Iraq and the neighboring state welcomed the plan.

The official pronounced that the capacity of Iran’s national power grid has reached 46,341 MW in the first half of current Iranian year (started March 21), showing a 9.11 percent rise when compared to the figure of same period in previous year.

Shifting to the privatization of the sector, Ahmadian announced that the government will only complete the semi-finished power plants.

He said that in line with enforcement of Article 44 of the Constitution, the new power plant will be built by the private sector.
