TEHRAN, Aug. 11 (MNA) –  A powerful 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the town of Sındırgı in Balıkesir province at 19:53 local time, sending shockwaves that were felt in major cities like Istanbul and Izmir.

The quake has left at least one person dead — an 81-year-old woman pulled from the rubble — and dozens injured.

At least sixteen buildings collapsed, forcing hundreds of residents to flee into the streets in panic as the night turned to chaos. Rescue teams are racing against time to reach survivors amid the debris.

This tragic quake reawakens memories of past disasters, shaking a nation still scarred by previous tragedies.
