Iran to Bring More International Shipping

TEHRAN October 17 (Mehr News Agency) – During last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20, 2003), Iran’s load of International shipping reached 40%, indicating roughly 33% growth compared with the corresponding figures of the previous two years, managing director of Iran’s Shipping company Ali Ashraf Afkhami said here Friday.

“It shows great capabilities of our shipping industries to compete in the global market,” he added. It has been the result of some basic efforts including precise programming, promotion of delivery services, and the expansion of Iran’s transportation fleet, Afkhami stated.

“We had taken ahead of the third economic development plan,” he added, saying foreign customers have greatly appreciated the service provided by the Iranian shipping lines.

He also said that experts are now planning to increase Iran’s share of international shipping industry even up to 45 percent.
