Leader calls for further expansion of ties with Turkmenistan

TEHRAN, Aug. 28 (MNA) – The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that Iran-Turkmenistan bilateral relations have broadened over past years, calling for the upward trend of the relations to continue.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei received the Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan or the national Leader of the country in short Gurbanguly Mälikgulyýewiç Berdimuhamedow, and his accompanying delegation for a meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.

The Leader pointed out that the two nations relations have strengthened over the past years, stressing that the trend of growing bilateral relations needs to go on during the tenure of the new Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian.

Ayatollah Khamenei further referred to the cooperation documents signed between the two countries  and said that "Mrs. Sadegh, Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development, as the head of the joint commission, will follow up on the agreements of the two countries to yield the desired results."

He also pointed to the remarks by the national leader of Turkmenistan about the joint projects between the two countries, including the South-North highway project and the Turkmenistan gas pipeline development project, attaching great importance to the operationalizing those projects. He also stated that "the implementation of these big projects with the cooperation of Iranian technicians and experts will bring the close relations between the two countries even closer than ever."

In the meeting in which Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian was also attending, the national leader of Turkmenistan, Mr. Berdimuhamedow, called the two countries relatives to each other and said that "I had good and constructive talks with the President in Tehran, and I hope that the signed agreements will yield good results."

The Turkmen national leader further recalled the memory of late Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and said that valuable measures were taken during his tenure to expand the relations between the two countries.

"The long shared border between Turkmenistan and Iran has always been so will be a border of peace and friendship, and we are ready to expand relations in all areas," Berdimuhamedow further underscored.

The national leader of Turkmenistan earlier on Wednesday held a joint presser with President Pezeshkian and the officials of the two countries signed four cooperation documents in their presence.
