Australia announced that senior officials sanctioned include Iran’s Defence Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani and the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Brigadier General Esmail Qaani.
Australia's foreign minister Penny Wong claimed that those sanctioned also include Iranian senior officials, businesspeople, and companies that have contributed to the development of Iran’s missile and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) programs.
Australia also sanctioned the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, an aircraft engine design and manufacturing company, and an Iranian communications technology company.
Today’s listings mean that Australia has now sanctioned 90 Iranian-linked individuals and 100 Iranian-linked entities.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian earlier in a conversation with European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stated that The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is an official and sovereign institution that has played a vital role in ensuring the national security of Iran and the region, especially in the fight against terrorism.
