Iraq calls for cooperation with Iran in oil, gas projects

TEHRAN, Dec. 27 (MNA) – The visiting Iraqi oil minister said that his country is keen on enhancing cooperation with Iran in the fields of exploration and development of oil and gas projects, both onshore and offshore.

Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji held talks with his Iraqi counterpart Hayyan Abdul-Ghani Abdul-Zahra Al-Swad in Tehran on Wednesday to discuss bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest.

Iran’s oil minister pointed to the expansion of relations with neighboring Iraq as emphasized by the administration of President Ebrahim Raeisi and stated that the two countries have deep cultural and political commonalities.

Tehran and Baghdad share the same view in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and OPEC Plus, Owji stressed.

He went on to say that Iran and Iraq have rich hydrocarbon oil and gas reserves and the way has been provided for the two countries to expand their ties in all fields, especially in the oil and gas sectors.

The Iraqi oil minister, for his part, pointed to the development of relations between the two nations in recent years.

Turning to the recent positions adopted in OPEC and OPEC Plus, Abdul-Ghani said that the positions adopted in the forum caused the stability of the oil prices, which is beneficial both for producers and consumers and also investing companies.

During the Iraqi oil minister's visit to Tehran, Iranian and Iraqi oil officials are scheduled to ink oil contracts in line with boosting mutual ties in the relevant field.
