The meeting took place on Thursday, the third and final day of the Iranian foreign minister’s trip to Geneva where he attended the Global Refugee Forum a day earlier.
Referring to the extensive range of Iran's services to millions of foreign refugees, especially under the influence of cruel and unilateral sanctions of the US government against Iran, the Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized Iran's support requests from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
He stressed the necessity of non-discriminatory interaction of the commissioners and responsible international organizations with their host countries regarding displaced persons and refugees of different countries.
Amir-Abdollahian expressed his concern about the dangerous actions of the Zionist regime to move Palestinians from the north to the south of Gaza and from there to the neighboring countries.
Referring to his talks with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres about displacing Gaza civilians, he called for the strong support of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to prevent the formation of a new wave of Palestinian displacement.
In this meeting, Filippo Grandi also thanked Iran for hosting a large number of foreign refugees and displaced persons and appreciated Iran's efforts and excellent service support for the refugees in Iran.
Explaining the support policies of the commissioner in supporting refugee-hosting countries by mobilizing capabilities and attracting aid from donor countries, he added that the commissioner is trying to increase its support to the host countries by providing compensation for financial and budget deficits in various ways.
During his trip, Amir-Abdollahian has also met with other UN officials, as well as foreign ministers of several countries, including Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. His meetings have mainly focused on the Gaza war, aiming to find a solution to immediately bring an end to the Israeli bloodshed of the Palestinians there.
The meetings are part of diplomatic efforts by the Islamic Republic to support the Palestinian people and help prevent further spillover of the Gaza war.
