Iranian chess grandmaster stuns English rival in London

TEHRAN, Dec. 09 (MNA) – The Iranian grandmaster Mohammad Amin Tabatabaei defeated his rival from England in the 2023 London Chess Classic.

In the seventh round of the competition, Tabatabaei, with a rating of 2692, defeated his opponent from England Nikita Vitiugov with a rating of 2704.

Tabatabaei moved into joint second in the London Chess Classic 2023 with a brilliant win over Vitiugov.

Previously, Tabatabaei drew with his American opponent Hans Niemann with a rating of 2667.

Tabatabaei will face his opponent from India Gukesh Dommaraju with a rating of 2720.

The event features nine super grandmasters, including the rising star of Indian chess, Dommaraju Gukesh, and the American sensation Hans Niemann.

The 13th edition of the London Chess Classic is taking place on December 1-10 as a 10-player single round-robin with a classical time control.
