Iran FM misses UNSC’s Palestine meeting after US delays visas

TEHRAN, Nov. 29 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister has said that the Iranian delegation was unable to attend the United Nations Security Council’s meeting on Palestine due to the United States' delay in issuing visas for Iranian diplomats.

Addressing the pressers on Wednesday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that the visas were issued at 1:00 a.m. local time today, making it impossible for the delegation to participate in the UNSC’s meeting scheduled for this morning.

Commenting on the reasons for holding the meeting, he pointed out that efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza continue.

The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, should decide on the initiatives in this regard, he further noted.

The top Iranian diplomat went on to say that efforts are underway to reach a durable cease-fire so as to exchange all Palestinian captives for the Israeli regime's prisoners.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi’s visit to Ankara was supposed to take place, but the Iranian and Turkish presidents agreed to meet in a few days as today’s UNSC meeting on the Palestinian issue is of prime importance for the two sides.

Amir-Abdollahian also said that Iranian officials are constantly in contact with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, who is acting as the mediator for the exchange of prisoners in the Gaza conflict.
