Iran, Turkey presidents to meet after FMs return from NYC

TEHRAN, Nov. 28 (MNA) – The presidents of Iran and Turkey will meet after the foreign ministers of the two countries return from a meeting about Gaza in New York, local Iranian media has reported.

An informed source has told Fars news agency  that Ayatollah Seyed Ebrahim Raeisi's trip to Ankara, which had been previously announced, is still on the agenda of both countries and will be done.

He said that the foreign ministers of Iran and Turkey will be in New York on Wednesday to participate in a conference to discuss Gaza with diplomats from a number of other countries.

This source added that Hossein Amir-Abdollahian is going to attend a meeting as a special guest with a number of foreign ministers of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League (Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Indonesia, Nigeria) who have made trips to the capitals of the permanent member states of the Security Council.

Last night, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian mentioned the holding of the United Nations Security Council meeting at the level of foreign ministers on Wednesday in New York in a phone call with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.

The informed source pointed to the telephone call between the presidents of Iran and Turkey last Sunday and said that in that telephone call the presidents agreed on the time of their meeting in Ankara, and that the meeting would be after the return of the foreign ministers of the two countries from New York and after being informed about the results of their trip.

During his recent trip to Ankara and in a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, Iran's Foreign Minister said that President Raeisi will visit Ankara at the official invitation of President Erdogan, and the two sides will hold a joint high commission on cooperation between the two countries in the near future.
