20 killed in Bangladesh train accident

TEHRAN, Oct. 23 (MNA) – At least 20 people have been killed and dozens injured after a cargo train collided with a passenger train in Kishoreganj’s Bhairab, authorities say, fearing that the death toll may rise further.

The accident involving Dhaka-bound passenger train ‘Egarosindur Express’ and a Kishoreganj-bound freight train took place at Bhairab Rail Station’s outer area at around 3:30 pm on Monday (Oct 23), said Bhairab Railway Police Station’s in-charge (OC) Md Alim Hossain Shikder, Somoy News reports.

Three compartments of the passenger train have been badly damaged.

Fire service has so far pulled out 20 bodies from the wreckage and says many more people are feared to be trapped underneath, potentially raising the number of casualties.

Train movement has been stopped on the route. The cause of the accident was not immediately known.
