Majlis majority faction voices opposing views on impeaching minister

TEHRAN, Oct. 21 (MNA) -- Most members of the Majlis conservative faction support the motion for the impeachment of Agricultural Jihad Minister Mohammad-Reza Eskandari, Mohammad Khoshchehreh said here on Saturday.

Majils Vice-Speaker Mohammad-Reza Bahonar had said on Friday that the central council of the Majlis majority faction has decided that the current situation is not appropriate for impeaching ministers.

“The central council of the Majlis majority faction will hold a meeting on Sunday to give its reasons for not supporting the motion,” Khoshchehreh who sits on the Majlis Economic Committee told the Mehr News Agency.

Most of the majority faction members support the impeachment, but the central council and some other faction members oppose it, he added.

Majlis Unity and Efficiency faction spokesman Reza Talaii-Nik said that his faction does not support the motion for the impeachment of the minister.

Only one year has passed since the formation of the President Mahmud Ahmadinejad administration and it is too soon to use the “tool of impeachment,” Talaii-Nik told MNA.

Unity and Efficiency faction prefers supervision over impeachment.

Fifty-one MPs have signed a motion to impeach Eskandari.
