Earlier in the day, the head of the Kyiv regional military administration Oleksiy Kuleba said that a helicopter had crashed in Brovary near a kindergarten and residential buildings, Sputnik reported.
"A total of 16 people are dead, two of them children. Nine of them were on board the helicopter. Another 22 victims are in hospital, 10 of which are children," the police, in turn, said on Telegram.
The police added that Ukrainian Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky and his first deputy Yevgeny Enin were killed in the accident.
A local media outlet has, meanwhile, claimed that the death tally stands at 18, including three children. According to the outlet, 26 people, among them 12 children, were injured as a result of the helicopter crash.
