The meeting, aimed at expanding cooperation between the two countries’ universities, was attended by university chancellors, embassy officials, and representatives of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.
During the event, Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi, the president of University of Tehran, appreciated the strong efforts by the academic sectors of the two states for boosting scientific and technological cooperation.
However, the official said a majority of academic collaborations are focused on exchanging students and professors, and called for a closer attention to some other areas, including joint research activities.
Sharing university management experience on international scale, cooperation to promote the universities' global rankings, and discussing academic approaches in applied and fundamental research were among the issues discussed during the event.
The summit was first held at Lomonosov Moscow State University in late 2015, while the second edition was hosted by the University of Tehran on in 2016; the event was attended by representatives from 13 Iranian and 18 Russian universities.
The 3rd summit of top Iranian and Russian universities was held in Moscow in 2017 at the venue of Lomonosov Moscow State University of Russia in the presence of Iranian and Russian top universities officials.
