Iraqi Kurdistan not to abandon Iran under sanctions: Kurdish official

TEHRAN, Nov. 20 (MNA) – Chairman of Iraqi Exporters and Importers Union in Kurdistan Sheikh Mustafa Abdul Rahman says the Iraqi Kurdistan will help Iranian people and government under the US sanctions.

Sheikh Mustafa Abdul Rahman made the remarks on Monday on the sidelines of an exhibition in Iranian Alborz province.

“Iran has great potentials in the field of manufacturing and industry, and we are very pleased that we live in the vicinity of the Islamic Republic,” he said.

He welcomed the expansion of economic and trade cooperation with Iran and said there is good cooperation between Iran and Iraq. He also welcomed the enhancement of economic cooperation to new levels.

Referring to the progressive trend of trade relations between the Iraqi Exporters and Importers Union in Kurdistan with the Chamber of Commerce of Iran, the Kurdish official said that there would be agreements signed between the Iran’s Chamber of Commerce and his union.

He said "we hope that signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Alborz province and the Kurdistan Region today will be a good move for Alborz merchants to introduce themselves to Kurdistan region's merchants."

He went on to say that “due to the high quality of Iranian goods, we welcome the presence of different Iranian products in the markets of Iraqi Kurdistan.”

Meanwhile, he noted that in order to expand bilateral trade between Iran and Iraq, the obstacles on the way of monetary and banking relations must be removed.
