Zarif, Hunt discuss bilateral ties in Tehran

TEHRAN, Nov. 19 (MNA) – UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met on Monday, conferring on bilateral ties as well as regional issues.

During the meeting held in Tehran, the two sides discussed issues including bilateral ties, the 2015 nuclear, and regional and international developments.

Hunt's first visit to Iran mainly focuses on the nuclear deal. Reviewing European efforts to maintain nuclear-related sanctions relief are also on his agenda.

The two top diplomats held a telephone conversation on Nov. 5, discussing bilateral ties and the Iran nuclear deal, also known as the JCPOA, in the face of US withdrawal from the agreement and re-imposition of sanctions.

During the telephone talks, Hunt emphasized the commitment of Britain, as well as other signatories of the JCPOA, to the nuclear agreement and called for preparation and immediate implementation of the EU’s financial mechanism to continue economic cooperation with Iran.

Later in the day, the British diplomat is also scheduled to meet with the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani.
