Pakistan to take immediate measures for release of Iranian border guards

TEHRAN, Nov. 12 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Monday that Pakistani officials have promised to introduce more measures for the release of Iranian border guards abducted by terrorists at a border post in the city of Mirjaveh, southeast Iran.

Touching upon his recent visit to Islamabad, Iranian FM noted that Pakistan has also promised to bring good news for Iranian nation in this regard.

He went on to say that in his trip to Pakistan, the two sides have agreed to prevent hostile acts along the common borders in the long run through increasing border cooperation.

Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are now pursuing the implementation of those agreements, he added.

12 Iranian border guards, including local Basij volunteer forces, were abducted on Oct. 16 by the so-called Jaish ul-Adl terror group, which is based in Pakistan. Following the incident, IRGC Ground Force Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour and FM Zarif made separate visits to Pakistan to discuss the issue with Pakistani officials.
