Iran, North Korea FMs discuss bilateral, regional issues

TEHRAN, Aug. 07 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his North Korean counterpart Ri Yong Ho met and held talks on Tuesday in Tehran.

During the meeting, the two sides voiced satisfaction with the level of bilateral relations and welcomed further expansion of cooperation between Tehran and Pyongyang. The two top diplomats also conferred on the most significant regional and international issues, as well as other topics of mutual interest.

Ri Yong Ho‘s Tehran visit was first reported by Tokyo-based news agency Kyodo on August 2, which cited sources with knowledge of the North Korean FM’s itinerary that “Ri is expected to make an official visit to Iran after participating in Saturday's ASEAN Regional Forum meeting of the 10-country regional bloc and other forum members.”

The ASEAN Regional Forum was held on August 4 in Singapore.

Kyodo’s report on Ri's official visit to Tehran was later confirmed by State-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

The North Korean foreign minister has already made visits to China, Russia, Azerbaijan Republic, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Sweden, this year.

A North-Korean delegation had also traveled to Iran last year to attend President Rouhani’s inauguration ceremony.
