State-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Friday that North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho will make an official visit to Iran soon, after participating in Saturday's ASEAN Regional Forum meeting.
The news agency did not disclose further details about the upcoming visit of the North Korean political delegation to Iran.
The report came as Tokyo-based news agency Kyodo cited sources with knowledge of the North Korean FM’s itinerary that “Ri is expected to make an official visit to Iran after participating in Saturday's ASEAN Regional Forum meeting of the 10-country regional bloc and other forum members.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was also in Singapore to take part in the 51st ministerial session of ASEAN member states, and to sign the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation with the bloc. He wrapped up his visit early Saturday to fly back to Iran.
The North Korean foreign minister has made visits to China, Russia, Azerbaijan republic, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Sweden, this year.
A North-Korean delegation had also traveled to Iran last year to attend President Rouhani’s inauguration ceremony.
