65 Iranian crafts to be reviewed for UNESCO Seal of Excellence

TEHRAN, Aug. 04 (MNA) – A panel of international judges in design and handicraft production will meet in Tehran Sun. to review 65 Iranian handicrafts and 16 others from West Asian member states UNESCO Seal of Excellence consideration.

Marzieh Torkamanian, head of the Handicraft Development Group, told Mehr News correspondent that five international judges including two Iranians, and the other three from China, Oman and Kuwait, will meet at Laleh Hotel in Tehran on Sunday to review 65 Iranian handicrafts for UNESCO Seal of Excellence consideration.

The submissions include a variety of craft categories manufactured in Iran.

According to UNESCO, the Seal of Excellence (known as SEAL) recognizes handicrafts products that are culturally authentic and have been manufactured in a socially-responsible manner with respect for the environment.

Torkamanian said the reviewing session on Sunday is UNESCO’s seventh international program in which Iran is participating, as well as the fourth of such programs hosted by Irna.

She added that 16 submissions from the 18 West Asian Member States will also be reviewed during the Sunday contest.

In 2016, a total of 10 high-quality works by Iranian artisans, ranging from potteries to handwoven products, were granted the UNESCO Seal of Excellence.
