Hosted by the Turkish city of Istanbul, the international event saw Persian kurash practitioners settling for three silver and two bronze medals though they missed gold trophies.
Accordingly, Hamed Rashidi (-90kg), Jafar Pahlavani (+100kg) and Ghanbarali Ghnabari (-60kg) stood on the second podium. Two bronze medals were also brought home by Mojtaba Zamani (-90kg) and Behzad Vahdani (-66kg).
Iran’s other representatives at the tournament, however, suffered defeats in the face of rivals and failed to scoop medals.
The XI World Kurash Senior Championships kicked off in Istanbul, Turkey on November 30 and will wrap up today on December 04.
Kurash is one of the Turkic terms for ‘wrestling’ and specifically refers to a number of folk wrestling styles practiced in Central Asia.
