Young Greco-Roman wrestlers to leave for Poland

TEHRAN, Nov. 18 (MNA) – Members of Iran’s national junior Greco-Roman squad will depart Tehran for Bydgoszcz in order to participate in Senior U23 World Championships.

Eight of the Iran’s most gifted young in men’s Greco-Roman wrestlers head to Bydgoszcz, Poland, tomorrow for the U23 World Championships, Nov. 21-26.

It will be the first UWW U23 World Championships, which features 18-23-year-old athletes in the three Olympic disciplines.

Iran’s men’s Greco-roman roster comprises Meysam Dalkhani (59kg), Amin Kavianinejad (66kg), Farshad Belfakeh (71kg), Payam Bouyeri (75kg), Mehdi Ebrahimi (80kg), Mahdi Fallah (85kg), Amirhossein Hosseini (97kg) as well as Amin Mirzadeh (130kg).

The Persian outfit will be led by Hamid Vafa as head coach while Hassan Hosseinzadeh, Mehrdad Esfandiari Fard, Roohollah Mikaeili and Mohammad Sharbiani will accompany the team as coaches.

The U-23 World Championships follow on the success of the U-23 European Championships in 2016 where more than 400 wrestlers from 34 nations competed for the continental gold.

United World Wrestling’s Continental Championship series returns March 10th with the Oceania Championships in Pirae, French Polynesia, followed on March 16th and 17th by the Greco-Roman World Cup in Abadan City, Iran.
