‘Kupal’ goes to Kolkata Intl. Filmfest.

TEHRAN, Oct. 28 (MNA) – Iranian feature ‘Kupal’, written and directed by Kazem Mollaei has been accepted to compete at the main competition section of the 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival in India.

As Iran’s sole representative in the Indian festival, the film is going to compete with 13 other films from Canada, Germany, Italy, Iceland, Turkey, Bangladesh, Poland, Chile, Portuguese, Spain, Brazil, Hungary, and India to win the 72000-dollar cash award.

Kazem Mollaei’s debut feature ‘Kupal’ which has recently won Best Film Award at Brasov Film Festival, narrates the story of a hunter and taxidermist who goes through an unfortunate incident by trapping himself in his basement with little food and no water, having to survive by using creative and desperate means. The storyline of ‘Kupal’ and the tagline is, "you can’t be alone in this world!"

Launched in 1995, Kolkata Film Festival is one of the most recognized film festivals in Asia and the second oldest international film festival in India. This year the Royal Bengal Trophy would be awarded to the Best Film and the Best Director in Innovation in Moving Images section. The cash award for the Best Film is the single largest cash award at any International film festival to date.

Kolkata International Film Festival will take place in Kalkota, India, running through November 10-17, 2017.
