Iranian freestyler vice-champion at World Cadet C’ships

TEHRAN, Sep. 10 (MNA) – Abbas Foroutan, representing Iran at 85kg category of 2017 World Cadet Wrestling Championships, managed to stand on the second podium.

Hosted by Athens of Greece, the sportive extravaganza saw competitions of the first five freestyle weight categories on Friday and Saturday.

Accordingly, Abbas Foroutan of Iran suffered a defeat in the face of Alan Bagaev of Russia who merely earned criteria on last point scored to win. The Iranian side therefore clinched a bronze medal.

Iran’s Mehdi Eshghi will take up Kanata Yamaguchi from Japan in the tough final showdown of 54-kilogram category in a bid to scoop a gold medal.

A bronze medal was also bagged for Iran by Mohammad Nokhodi who overcame Japan’s Masaki Sato 5-2 in the third-place encounter. The young wrestler of Iran had earlier quelled Mexico’s Roberto Alejandro Blanco in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Meysam Zare (76kg) and Seyed Mehdi Hashemi (100kg) both conceded defeats in the semifinal round against American and Russian rivals falling short of medals.

Competitions kicked off on September 04 on three United World Wrestling (UWW) homologated mats and will wrap up today on September 10.
