Beach cleaners pay tribute to Mandela

TEHRAN, Aug. 28 (MNA) – environmentalist activists who cleaned a coast in north of Iran marked their contribution to nature as a tribute to late South Africa’s hero, Nelson Mandela.

The coast cleanup at Farahabad Beach of Sari, in north of Iran, was attended by volunteer cleaners who commemorated the memory of Nelson Mandela.

This is the 288th edition of the program, under the title of ‘the sweepers of the nature of Mazandaran, cleanup and cultural awareness campaign,’ held on Monday in the afternoon with volunteer participation of sweepers.

Attention to environment and protection and cleanup were announced as the objectives of the program which was attended by non-governmental organizations and a UN official in Iran.

Mazandaran Province in north of Iran, borders a distance of 470 kilometers with the Caspian Sea shoreline. waste aggregation in the shoreline is one of the environmental problems of the province.

Nelson Mandela, the first black president of South Africa, is widely respected by the people, academicians, and statesmen in Iran as a leader of resisting against oppression, colonialism, and racism.
