Ukraine paves path for Iran's petchem exports to Europe

TEHRAN, Aug. 15 (MNA) – NPC head said Ukraine could prepare grounds for direct export of Iranian petrochemicals to Europe given its vicinity to European markets.

Head of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Marzieh Shah-Daei made the remarks in a meeting with Ukraine's Ambassador to Iran Sergey Burdilyak adding “Iranian petrochemicals could be also exported to Europe within framework of swap.”

Deputy Iranian oil minister went on to state that the meeting was a follow-up to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and Ukraine wan term of which was cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy and petrochemical industry.

Shah-Daei said one of the issues discussed in the meeting was to introduce investment opportunities for Ukrainian investors in Iran.

Creation of Iran's petrochemicals export hub in Ukraine for Europe, exchanging know-how between the two countries in this concern and considering Ukraine refinery products as feed for petrochemical industry in order to establish petrochemical industry in Ukraine were among issues discussed in the meeting, she said.

NPC managing director said Ukraine was poor in the field of oil and gas resources for having only three refineries which received feedstock from Russia.

She however noted that Ukraine was an excellent market for Iran's petrochemical companies adding “petrochemicals export in the first six months of the 2017 had 70 percent growth as compared to the preceding year.”

Also at the meeting, Sergey Burdilyak of Ukraine, urged the Iranian officials to dispatch an expert team to Ukraine to visit their petrochemical site and find appropriate mechanism for bilateral cooperation in this field.

He expressed readiness to announce names of participants from Ukraine private sector in downstream petrochemical industry to attend the 11th edition of IranPlast exhibition in October, 2017 in Tehran.

Iran exported 12.8 million tons of petrochemicals in 2013 while the figure rose to 20.4 million tons in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 20).
