Iranian blind judo team vice champion of 2017 IBSA

TEHRAN, May 29 (MNA) – Iranian national blind judo team managed to win for the very first time the vice championship title at the 2017 IBSA Judo Asian and Oceanian Championships hosted by Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The 2017 IBSA Judo Asian and Oceanian Championships were held on 22-29 May in two categories of team and individual in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The team category was held in two groups with the Iranian national team competing against and defeating teams from Kazakhstan and India, thus advancing to the finals.

The Iranian team went against the Paralympic champions, South Korea, and was defeated 3-2, thus gaining the vice-championship title of this tournament for the very first time.

Notable moments of the final games were the outstanding performance of Meysam Banitaba and Mohammadreza Kheirollah Zadeh who managed to defeat their title-holding South Korean opponents.

The 2017 IBSA Judo Asian and Oceanian Championships wrapped up on Monday with South Korean team as the champion. Iran won second place while Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan shared the third place.

This tournament was organized by the Paralympic Committee of Uzbekistan under the auspices of International Blind Sports Association.
