Iran good neighbor, reliable partner: Putin

TEHRAN, Mar. 28 (MNA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin, while welcoming Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at Grand Kremlin Palace, described Iran as a 'good neighbor and a reliable partner.'

The meeting between Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin was held on Tuesday evening as part of Rouhani’s two-day visit to Moscow.

Prior to the joint meeting, an honor guard paid respect to the Iranian President who was later welcomed by the President of the Russian Federation.

Putting, while deeming Iran as a good neighbor and trustable partner, said the two sides have held diplomatic ties for the past 500 years.

“Tehran and Moscow have hold partnership in all areas which entails international affairs as well as resolving extremely complicated issues in political and economic sectors,” he continued.

Putin also underlined that eye-catching achievements have been obtained in the new era of ties between the two sides referring to the 70% growth in trade turnover in 2016 as compared to the earlier year.

“The accomplishment has been made at a time when economic conditions are complicated at an unprecedented level,” stressed the official recalling that the present progress greatly owes to efforts of both sides’ presidents.

Also at the meeting, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said cooperation between Russia and the Islamic Republic is not directed against third countries, but is aimed at strengthening stability in the region.

Rouhani said relations between the two countries have developed positively in recent years.

He also expressed the hope that during the talks new steps will be made to develop relations.

"We have a good experience in the fight against terrorism, international terrorism, the fight against the drug threat. Our ultimate goal is to strengthen peace and stability in the region. The development of our relations is not directed against third countries," he said.

Also at the meeting between Iranian and Russian Presidents, a total of 14 cooperation documents were inked in consular, tourism, economy, communications, legal and judicial fields.
