Young cyclist breaks medal spell in ACC

TEHRAN, Feb. 28 (MNA) – Amir Hossein Jamshidian could bring home Iran’s first medal on the third day of the 24th Asian Junior Cycling Championship.

The 2017 Asian Cycling Championships, comprising 37th edition of senior, 24th of junior and 6th round of para-cycling continental events, is being co-hosted by India and Bahrain from February 26 to March 02.

The road race of Men’s division was held on Tuesday morning in Bahrain International Circuit where young Iranian cyclist Amir Hossein Jamshidian finished third to bag a bronze medal. The Iranian athlete had previously received one gold and one silver in time trial section which was held in India.

Women elite road race event will be also held today covering a total distance of 89.6 kilometers.

The Asian Cycling Championships is basically the annual continental championships which are organized by Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), Asian Cycling Championships 2017 are co-organized by ACC and Bahrain Cycling Association (BCA).

The first Asian Cycling Championships were held in Kuala Lumpur, Federation of Malaya in 1963.

The decision to allow separate host cities for each discipline was made at January’s Asian Cycling Confederation Congress in Tokyo, following the 2016 Championships in Japan.
