Iran, Russia stress on expansion of parliamentary ties

TEHRAN, Feb. 18 (MNA) – Iranian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Mehdi Sanaei and Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky examined ways to expand all-out ties, including parliamentary cooperation.

In a meeting held on Friday in Moscow, the two sides discussed bilateral ties and cooperation in various fields, including boosting parliamentary ties.

Slutsky underlined the State Duma is dominated by the spirit of development of relations with Iran.

“I am sure in the near future, with holding of meeting between the foreign policy committees of the two parliaments, Iran and Russia positions will get more close to each other on key international and regional issues including Syria and the Middle East,” he added.

Sanaei, for his part, pointing out that relations and cooperation between Iran and Russia have evolved with positive approach in all fields including politics and economy, reiterated the commonalities in their viewpoints towards international and regional issues including in the fight against terrorism.

Sanaei added the presidents of the two countries have met each other eight times in three years and during the upcoming visit of President Hassan Rouhani to Russia, they will sign important documents and MoUs.

Slutsky and Sanaei agreed upon boosting cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries as well as parliamentary friendship groups.
