The Head of the Syrian Arab Republic delegation to Astana meeting Bashar Jaafari and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari met for the second time during the ongoing Syrian Peace Talks on Tuesday in the Kazakh capital, Astana. Their first meeting was held three days ago.
Syria's Permanent Representative to the UN who also serves as the top negotiator of the Syrian Arab Republic in peace talks conferred with Mr. Jaberi Ansari on the latest issues discussed during the Syrian-Syrian talks.
In addition to representatives of Iran, Russia, and Turkey as the initiators of this round of talks, the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, and the US ambassador to Astana, George A. Krol are present in the talks between the representatives of the legal government of Syria and the representatives of the armed opposition groups.
The two day talks aimed to finalize an agreement for bolstering and stabilizing the ceasefire and end of hostilities in the war-torn Arab country. The three sponsors of the talks (Iran, Russia, and Turkey) are mulling over forming a supervisory commission to watch the ceasefire in Syria.
Staffan de Mistura is supposed to read the final statement of the two-day talks, approved by Iran, Russia, and Turkey, at the end of the day.
Mr. Jaberi Ansari and de Mistura had a bilateral meeting last night at the hotel where the Iranian delegation resides.
