Lavrov, Moallem to focus on Syrian situation

TEHRAN, Oct. 26 (MNA) – Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that talks between Syria’s Walid al-Moallem and Russia’s Sergey Lavrov will be held on Saturday in Moscow and will focus on the military, political, and humanitarian situation in Syria.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry said that talks will also tackle the efforts of the Syrian and Russian armies in fighting ISIL and al-Nusra terrorists, in addition to providing civilians with humanitarian aid, particularly food, medicine, and essentials.

The statement said that al-Moallem will start his official work visit to Moscow upon an invitation from Lavrov on Friday and will conclude it on Sunday.

The Ministry said that Syria is one of Russia's main partners in the Middle East and the two countries are bound by deep-rooted friendship and cooperation, asserting that Russia's positions regarding Syria adhere to Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and secularism, and that these positions assert that there's no alternative to resolving the crisis in Syria with political means, underlining Russia's insistence to resume intra-Syrian talks quickly.
