Iran, Mexico highly regard bilateral ties

TEHRAN, Oct. 22 (MNA) – Minister of Cooperative, Labor and Social Welfare Ali Rabiei and Chairwoman of Mexican Senate Foreign Relations Committee Gabriela Cuevas Barrón met and discussed issues of mutual interest.

In a meeting held on the last day of Ali Rabiei's visit to Mexico City, he pointed to Iran-Mexico 100-year-old relations, and stressed the need for enhancing the exchange of parliamentary delegations and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the development of relations between the two countries.

He also stressed on enhancing parliamentary relations between the two countries and welcomed the opening of offices for commercial institutions. He expressed hope that Cuevas Barrón to visit Iran in the future.

Senator Cuevas at the meeting praised the role of Iranian Ambassador to Mexico City Jalal Kalantari in creating dynamic parliamentary relations between the two countries.

"Parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries has enjoyed a good performance and in this regard we have signed two parliamentary cooperation documents," she added.

She reiterated that Mexico is willing to expand ties with Iran as a great country with ancient history and culture.

Elsewhere in her speech, Cuevas described the nuclear deal between Iran and 5+1 a historic event, adding the agreement shows the importance and the role of diplomacy and negotiation in resolving the great problems and challenges.

Rabiei arrived in Mexico on October 17 at the invitation of his Mexican counterpart Alfonso Navarrete Prida on Monday.
