Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with Claudia Ruiz Massieu, the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday at 10:00 AM local time just an hour after arriving in Mexican capital city of Mexico City and being welcomed by the Mexican Director General of the Foreign Ministry's Middle East and Africa Department at the airport.
Exchanging views on issues of bilateral interests, Zarif and his Mexican counterpart discussed the ways to deepen the ties in the future.
Developing cooperation on areas of Economy, trade, banking, academic interactions, implementation of the former agreements on political consultations of deputy ministers, exchange of political and parliamentarian delegations, and social issues like fight with drug traffic and poverty were the main issues discussed by Iranian top diplomat and his Mexican counterpart.
Claudia Ruiz Massieu also broke the news of her plan to travel to Tehran in the near future.
Zarif and his accompanying delegation including deputies Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and Majid Takht-Ravanchi are scheduled to leave Mexico for Venezuela to attend the ministerial summit of the Non-Aligned Movement on Thursday and Friday.
The 17th heads-of-states Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement will be held on Venezuela’s Margarita Island on September 17 and 18. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will also attend the Summit to deliver a speech and hand over the rotating presidency of the NAM to the Latin American country.
President Rouhani and the rest of Iranian delegation will then depart for New York to attend the 71st UN General Assembly Session from Sep. 20 to 26. According to Leader’s advisor on international affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, the US lack of commitment to Iran's nuclear deal will be pursued by the Iranian delegation while in New York.
