Iran’s ‘Paradise’ wins top prizes at Chelsea filmfest.

TEHRAN, Oct. 17 (MNA) – ‘Paradise’ by Iranian filmmaker Ali Atshani won three top prizes at the 14th Chelsea Film Festival in New York, US.

The 14th annual Chelsea Film Festival as New York’s third major festival wrapped up on Oct. 26 at Cinepolis movie theater, with Iranian feature film Paradise scooping Best Director for Ali Atshani, Best Actor for Javad Ezzati and Best Supporting Actor award for Mehran Rajabi.

Paradise is about two young religious scholars who plan to take part in a university seminar on regions in Germany.

As Iran’s sole representative in the festival, Paradise competed with 22 other films in the main competition category. The film was screened to warm reception and followed by a Q&A session with the director.

The Chelsea Film Festival is an event consisting of four days of screenings of independent shorts, feature-lengths and documentaries from emerging directors.

Paradise will next take part in Toronto film festival from Oct. 19, and appear in Iranian film festivals on Oct. 29.
