Japan keen on expanding scientific coop. with Iran

KYOTO, Oct. 03 (MNA) – Japan’s Science Minister Hirokazu Matsuno in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Farhadi called for utilization of scientific and technological capacities for cooperation between the two countries.

Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology held talks with Iranian Minister of Science and Technology on Sunday, on the sidelines of the 13th Annual Meeting of Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum in Kyoto, Japan.

During the meeting, Hirokazu Matsuno highlighted the strong presence of Iran on the international scene of science and technology, and pointed to an MoU signed between the two countries’ ministry of science in the same STS forum last year.

He also called for more efforts for implementing the MoU and utilizing the potential capacities of the two countries for cooperation in various fields.

The Iranian minister, for his part, maintained that the effective meetings between Tehran and Tokyo and the exchange of views and discussing topics can have a valuable role in development of science and technology in society.

Farhadi also voiced the readiness of Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology for student exchange in graduate courses, improvement of courses on Japanese studies in Iran and courses on Iranian studies in Japan.  

He further invited the Japanese minister of science to pay a visit to Iran and become closely acquainted with Iran’s progress in the field of science and technology.

Farhadi also held a meeting with Qatar’s Minister of Science on Monday in Kyoto, where Muhammad al-Ahmadi praised the performance and policies of Iran for development of scientific, technological and research cooperation on the international scene.

He also voiced his country’s readiness to cooperate with Iran in nanotechnology, bioscience, bioengineering and ICT.

Iranian Minister of Science and Technology heading a delegation arrived in the Japanese city of Kyoto Saturday night to attend the 13th Annual Meeting of Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum on 2-4 October. He met with his Japanese, Thai, and Turkish counterparts on Sunday and is scheduled to meet with his Malaysian and Senegalese counterparts today.
