“Ayatollah Isa Qassim, belongs not only to the people of Bahrain, but also the Muslims of the whole world as a senior Islamic cleric,” said Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Iranian Parliament's General Director for International Affairs, on Thursday.
His remarks came after Bahraini regime’s continuation of a legal prosecution of the senior figure despite the protests and discontent of the Bahraini people.
“Recently, some 210 Iranian MPs have signed a petition calling al-Khalifa regime to stop insulting the religious beliefs of the people of Bahrain,” recounted the senior Iranian diplomat who was FM Zarif’s deputy on Arab and African Affairs, “MPs have seriously warned the monarchy to observe the rights of Ayatollah Isa Qassim and not violate his security and respect.”
He added that Iran understands the predicament of Bahraini government which is controlled and under pressure by Saudi regime. “The Bahraini government should be watchful not to be deceived by Saudi Arabia,” warned Amir-abdollahian, “they have to get fully aware of the consequences of trialing Sheikh Isa Qassim.”
Since the start of Islamic uprising in the countries of North Africa and the Middle East, the Bahrainis, who are mostly Shia, protested the oppression of the minority ruling family of al Khalifa to have some political reforms in favor of a more democratic state, however, the ruling regime with the help of Saudi monarch hushed the masses with heavy dispatch of Saudi police forces and military armaments.
