Ali Akbar Salehi who was talking to an IRIB program on Friday night, told the program that the preliminary work had been done for Iran to join International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project; he said Iran was the only Middle Eastern country to joint 27 EU countries, the US, India, Japan, China, and South Korea in the prestigious project; “during last visit to France, the preliminary action was completed for Iran’s joining of the project; the visit sought to provide a general image of the project for us; according to 3rd Appendix of the JCPOA, 5+1 are committed to helping Iran with nuclear technology; we are the sole Middle Eastern country to join this project accordingly, and they welcome us due to our higher expertise and technical capabilities,” he told the program.
On an incipient plot detected by Tehran officials against the country’s nuclear program, evident in remarks of some of the EU and US officials, Salehi said that the ‘equivocal and inaccurate’ remarks by US Congress members and also EU officials entailed a Supreme National Security Council meeting to closely watch those remarks as the beginning of a well-orchestrated conspiracy against Iran’s nuclear program.
Salehi also told the program that the process of selling 40 tons of heavy water to Russia was in terminal stages and that a final deal would be signed; “Mr. Kamalvandi has discussed during several of his meetings with Russian counterparts; there is still ambiguity as to how to receive the amount of money paid for heavy water, which should also be discussed,” he told the program. “The EU countries also demanded purchase of Iran’s heavy water however for non-nuclear plant and industry applications; we currently discussed delivery of 10-15 ton packages of heavy water to two EU countries which are to remain confidential for expediencies we have; we have delivered the US 32 tons of heavy water and received payment as well,” he detailed.
Head of AEOI believed that heavy water was a strategic commodity in the market and not an easy commodity to supply in any conventional market; “international rules determines the process of trading off the heavy water, with each kilogram of heavy water priced between $ 280-1, 500,” Salehi told the program.
He commented once again on remarks by Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani earlier last week who had said new ‘enrichment factories’ should be opened in response to violation of JCPOA provisions; "what Mr. Larijani was saying was that there should be a system of returning back to status quo ante, that is, situation before JCPOA; there is no new 'factories' as Mr. Larijani's remarks would invite to the minds," he added.
