Visa cancellation effective for Iran-Armenia economic ties

TEHRAN, Jun. 06 (MNA) – Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Iran and Armenia’s agreement on abolishing visas is effective for the development of economic relations between the two countries.

Making remarks in a meeting with Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian on Sunday, Larijani pointed to the longstanding and positive ties between Iran and Armenia saying “fortunately, in recent years the two countries have held good relations reflecting their interest to strengthen ties.”

He pointed to the potentials between Iran and Armenia, especially in the economic field saying Iranian companies can have an effective role in the development of economic relations between the two countries.

He also stressed the importance of parliamentary relations to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation in the future.

Describing that Iran and Armenia's positions on various issues, including regional crises, are close to each other, Larijani said the spread of terrorism in the region is alarming which demands us to consult and share views.

Pointing to the agreement to cancel the visa regime between the two countries, Larijani said the move will boost the development of tourism between the two states and will create favorable conditions for mutual visits of citizens of Armenia and Iran. “It will also strengthen the mutually beneficial economic, trade and other ties,” he noted.

Edward Nalbandian also described Iran-Armenian ties friendly and expanded, saying the two countries should work to strengthen relations, “in this respect the role of parliamentary ties is very productive.”

Pointing to his meeting with Iranian president, Nalbandian said President Hassan Rouhani has stressed that Nagorno-Karabakh's issue cannot be resolved by military solutions, but peacefully by negotiations and dialogue between the involved parties, which is our own position too.

Armenia's FM announced that his government welcomes and supports Iran's membership in the Eurasian Union which could help to the development of relations between the member states.
