Abutorabi Fard:

Iran to stand firm against US asset ruling

TEHRAN, May. 01 (MNA) – Iranian MP while deeming the US seizure of around $2bn of Iran’s frozen asset a ‘serious threat against international law and order’, said Iran will take countermeasures against this ‘phony court ruling.’

Iranian lawmaker and Vice-Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard, who chaired the Sunday open Parliament meeting in Tehran, said the Iranian nation will take a firm stance against the US Supreme Court ruling, which violates all rules and regulations of the judiciary and Congress, and is a ‘serious threat against international law and order’.

“The American regime should know that just as it has experienced a bitter defeat in every case of conflict with the Islamic Republic, it will also be dealt a serious blow in this case and the Iranian nation will achieve its rights,” he said.

He went on to add, “the US Congress and all the other branches in the country think that they are living in Stone Age and can seize other nations’ interests for their own by relying on military power.”

Abutorabi Fard further deemed the court proceedings ‘fake, phony and undocumented’, saying the ruling is a blatant violation of international law.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday to ask him to intervene with his "good offices" after the US Supreme Court ruled that around $2 billion in frozen Iranian assets must be paid to American victims of attacks blamed on Tehran. He has also called on Ban to persuade the US to stop interfering with Iran's international commercial and financial transactions.

The United Nations on Friday suggested it would be willing to assist in a dispute between Tehran and Washington; "We'll obviously take a look at it," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters. "As a matter of principle ... the Secretary-General's good offices are always available should both parties to whatever tensions or issue request it."

Iran's Foreign Ministry has also summoned the Swiss Ambassador on Tuesday to express its protest over the controversial ruling.
