Attended by 659 karate practitioners of 59 countries, the fifth edtion 2016 Karate 1 – Premier League kicked off on Saturday in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where Iran’s Asgari defeated all rivals on road to the finals of -75kg setting up a date with Rafael Aghayev of Azerbaijan in an attempt to earn the gold medal.
The Iranian karateka had begun career by subduing the host rival 6-0 before he overcame the representative of Tunisia 5-0.
In his third encounter, Asgari earned a 1-0 win over Molchanov of Azerbaijan while he was victorious in the quarterfinal meeting against Majed Al-Khalifa of Saudi Arabia 2-0.
Iran’s representative had to get the better of Russia’s Andrey Kazan 4-0 to reach the finals without losing any points.
Meanwhile, all other Iranian karate practitioners present at the tournament conceded defeats against rivals missing chances to bag gold medal for the country’s squad.
The fourth round of 2016 Karate 1 – Premier League is underway in Dubai, UAE from April 9-10.
