Handball team concedes defeat against Sweden

TEHRAN, Apr. 09 (MNA) – Iranian national handball team failed to overcome the hosts at 2016 Olympic Qualification Tournament underway in Sweden.

National handball players, who had previously failed to receive direct tickets to Rio Olympics at the first round of 2016 Olympic Qualification Tournament, lost to Swedish rivals on Friday at Malmö Arena of Malmö in Sweden at the second round of the qualifiers.

The European team out powered Iran and gained a 34-19 victory against the Iranian outfit who will meet Spain on Saturday afternoon.

Iran is competing against Sweden, Slovenia and Spain at the second edition of 2016 Olympic Qualification Tournament while only the top two teams will snare berths at 2016 Men's Olympic Handball Tournament.

Overall, twelve teams will find their ways to Rio Games including the hosts, the world champion, four continental champions and six teams from the World Olympic qualification tournaments respectively.
