'The Rock' directed by Hamid Jafari and ‘He’ directed by Sam Kalantari will represent Iran in the Compétition Internationale Courts Métrages of Visions du Réel Film Festival in Switzerland.
‘The Rock’ chooses as its location a stark and mineral landscape in the province of Khuzestan, southern Iran, and narrates the life of a woman who lives in a hut made of stones dug out of the rock and breaks rocks off a cliff, using only the strength of her arms and a crowbar as a tool. Her day-to-day life is divided between the care she provides to her husband and the long hours spent extracting stones.
The film was awarded Best Short Film at the Cinéma Vérité Festival in Tehran.
‘He’ (Original title: Mannequins of Hassan Khan Castle) examines the surreal path of shop window dummies, from their design in a factory to a possible final use.
Visions du Réel (Visions of Reality) is an internationally renowned documentary film festival established in 1969. The festival will run from 15 to 23 April 2016 in Nyon, Switzerland.
