The Italian Trophée Luxardo fencing competitions convened in the city of Padoue on January 29-30 with the entry of 91 fencers.
Mojtaba Abedini had directly reached the Table of 64 of Sabre weapon where he managed to defeat Dario Cavaliere of Italy 15-11 reaching the Table of 32.
The Iranian athlete gained a second victory over Georgia’s Sandro Bazadze 15-7 finding his way to the Table of 16 of the event where he subdued the Romanian rival Tiberiu Dolniceanu 15-12 getting to the Table of 8.
However, Abedini failed to reach the semi-finals conceding a 14-15 defeat against Aldo Montano of Italy finishing in the 6th place in the overall ranking with a total of 14 Olympic points.
Iran’s other representative, Ali Pakdaman only managed to arrive at the Table of 96 by overthrowing his Mexican rival where he was defeated by the powerful Russian fencer dropping out of the tournament.
Pakdaman only bagged one Olympic point finishing 81st in the final ranking of the Italian event.
