Condemning Saudi's act in execution of Shia cleric Sheikh al-Nimr, Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Saturday that Riyadh cannot exonerate itself from wrong policies in the region.
Summoning Saudi Consul General in Iran Eshagh al-Arini on Saturday, Amir-Abdollahian warned the Saudi leaders of inhumane, irresponsible behavior and the consequences.
"Saudi government has not yet fulfilled its responsibility about the death of thousands of Muslims, including hundreds of Iranians, at Hajj stampede and now it has unfortunately executed the religious leader, insulting and injuring sentiments of the Muslim World and setting a new fire in the region," Iranian diplomat underlined.
"None of the accusations leveled against the Shia cleric in a statement by Saudi Interior Ministry is true," Amir-Abdollahian said.
Saudi Consul General Eshagh al-Arini said that he will convey Iran's protest to his government.
