Pres. Rouhani to vie for Assembly of Experts polls

TEHRAN, Dec. 21 (MNA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has registered this morning for the upcoming Assembly of Experts' elections, while stressing the importance of women’s running for parliamentary polls.

Speaking to reporters after his registration on Monday, President Hassan Rouhani noted the satisfactory enthusiasm among people registering for the upcoming elections, saying it was important for Iran to show the world that the main decision-makers for running the country were people’s votes and the ballots.

The President called on every qualified citizen intending to serve the Iranian nation to come forth and register either in the 5th round of Assembly of Experts' elections or the 10th round of the parliamentary elections.

He stressed that the government is fully vigilant so as to prevent any possible transgression in the elections, saying “we seek to hold a 100 percent healthy, magnificent and competitive election with maximum participation of all parties.”

The President then touched upon the participation of women in elections, saying “women have a very solid presence in political and social affairs of the country. In fact, Iran is among the leading countries in the region or even in the world in regards to women’s participation.”

Rouhani further urged women to register for the upcoming parliamentary elections, saying “the composition of the body of Iran’s parliament is very important to us; a considerable number of women taking the seats at the parliament will be significant to public opinion in the world as it shows this very important fact that nothing in Iran is based on gender but rather competency.”

Deeming the elections a source for further unity and cohesion between Iranian nation and government, Rouhani added that the current situation in the region and the world necessities the significance of maximum unity for Iran.
