Directed by Yadollah Samadi, the Iranian flick will be screened at the ‘Children’s Film’ section of the 14th Dhaka International Film Festival.
Samadi’s production has recently won Best Screenplay and Best Child Actor awards at the 10th edition of Children’s India International Film Festival.
‘The Other’s Father’ depicts the life of 6-year-old Shahab who is still unable to speak at his age, and his only communication is with his mother. While others taunt him for being mentally handicapped, Shahb retaliates by hurting them, thus causing problems for his family.
The general theme of the DIFF has been described as “Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society.” According to the festival’s official website, DIFF is a bold expression of resistance against the decadence, vulgarity and cheap commercialism that pervades the mainstream Bangladesh film industry.
The festival is expected to screen approximately 170 films, with participation from 60 countries. The festival will have a competition section for Asian and Australian cinema and segment categories for "Retrospective", "Cinema of the World", "Children’s Film", "Women Filmmakers", "Short and Independent Films Section", "Nordic Film Session" and "Spiritual Films Section".
The 14th Dhaka International Film Festival will be held between January 14 and January 22, 2016.
