The Joint consular session between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Indonesia was held in Tehran on November 10-11.
Attended by Iranian Foreign Ministry Director General for Consular Affairs Ali Chegini and his Indonesian counterpart with the accompanying delegation, the meeting investigated ways to improve consular collaboration between the two sides emphasizing the role of consular ties in facilitating cooperation in other areas.
The participants discussed development of relations between the people of the two countries and the two parties agreed to speed up visa issuance procedures for tourists, businessmen, investors, students, professors, athletes as well as artists.
The issue of prisoners and how to mitigate the problems faced by their families were also dealt with during the session and the members agreed to continue dialogue and consultation on legal framework for helping the prisoners including the signing of an agreement to transfer the convicted prisoners.
Several other topics were raised during the meeting including possibility of inking judicial deals like agreement on mutual legal assistance and extradition of prisoners where it was decided that the competent authorities make consultations in order to pave the way for the conclusion of agreements.
Iran and Indonesia further emphasized the need for police cooperation between the two countries to combat drug trafficking and other organized crimes.
