Iran, China to co-produce ‘Superhero’

TEHRAN, Oct. 6 (MNA) – Calling joint production in animation industry as a great achievement for the Iranian cinema, Film producer Mohammad Reza Abolhassani announced the upcoming production of the animated film ‘Superhero’ in collaboration with China.

Abolhassani who has already produced the animation ‘Tehran 2121’ as well as some short animated TV series stated that, “after reaching an agreement with the Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) on the initial investment for Superhero, we had to think of co-production due to high costs and began the necessary consultations with China in this regard.”

“On the sidelines of Silk Road International Film Festival, a joint production contract to produce the animated film Superhero was signed between Iran’s Green Idea Generation Studio and China’s Magic Studio based on which the film will be directed by Bahram Azimi with a 15-million-dollar budget statrting from 2016 with the final production phase in 2019."

Abolhassani explained the conditions of the Superhero’s release stating that, “one advantage of co-production is that in addition to screening in two countries, we can count on the international cinematic capacities and the film will get a premier in other countries as well.”

“Superhero will be representative of the talent and capabilities of Iran’s cinema in the world and its success will encourage the global audience to work on further joint productions,” he added.

Referring to the storyline of the animated film, Abolhassani noted that the film Superhero is about some Iranian and Chinese superheroes and thirty minutes of the film will be narrated in China; meanwhile, the Chinese dubbing of the film will be carried out by prominent figures in China’s cinema.
